A dog that sits on command is more easily managed. If you have company over this is by far the most important command!

Teaching Your Dog To Sit :

  1. You must be on the floor at your dogs level to start. (Its easier on the back and your dog will show more interest).

  2. Hold a treat close to your dogs nose and let his head follow the treat as you move your hand up.

  3. Give the command “SIT”

  4. As his head moves up, his bottom will lower to the ground.

  5. When his bottom hits the ground, give him the treat and praise him like he is the best thing since sliced bread!

  6. Repetition is the key! Do this several times over and he will associate his good behavior with you releasing the treat! Once this becomes natural then he will sit whenever you want him to from now on!

Tips:

Repetition is very important if you want it to stick for life! Make it as fun as you possibly can. The more excited you are each time he gets it right then the faster he will pick up on the command and the more eager he will want to please you!

Don’t get aggravated and be patient you are the better the outcome! Love is the key!
